The development of efficient confinement techniques helps also the environment and the circular economy, as in the case of palladium recovery in fine chemicals.

The palladium recovery phase in fine chemicals is an issue that has become central since the increasing use of noble metal-based catalysts in the production of a wide range of pharmaceuticals. The scarcity and high cost of noble metals such as palladium and platinum have led to questions about the economic viability of increasing demand for precious metal-based catalysts.

The recovery of PGMs (platinum group metals) from various manufactured goods (such as filters) is of great importance as it allows the reusing of these rare raw materials that have high economic value. In addition, this process has benefits in terms of environmental sustainability, also from a circular economy perspective.

CSV Containment thanks to the DITĀ® technology has realized over time numerous containment solutions, through the double iris configuration, but also confinement applications, combining safety and ergonomics. The application of a manual or automatic iris to CSV Containmentā€™s glove boxes is a very effective solution for confining items of different sizes and performing bag-out operations with greater safety. The isolator shown in this article is an example of an ideal configuration for performing noble metal recovery operations from spent catalysts or filters, whatever their origin or field of use.

CSV Containment also makes it possible to complete operations safely by producing continuous liners and locking systems, such as the Twin TieĀ®, with related accessory tools.

Key features of the glove box for the confinement of palladiate coal recovery operations:

  • Steel isolator equipped with antistatic, braked pivoting wheels
  • Single manual or automatic iris interface (double iris option also available)
  • 450 mm diameter iris with conductive EPDM elastomer
  • Fixed glass front equipped with 4 conductive EPDM gloves on oval flanges
  • HEPA filter
  • PTFE spray gun with FEP or PFA hose
  • An optional spray ball
  • The drainage point coinciding with the discharge point of the palladium into the collection container
  • Venturi for vacuum in the chamber
  • Pressure indicator

CSV Containment provides tailor-made solutions for pharmaceutical and fine chemical sectors in terms of containment. For more info: containment@csv-ls.com
