Dispensing and Sampling are two operations that encompass a world within and beyond. We want to tell you the story of a recent installation where our Group was involved on multiple fronts.
Why Dispensing and Sampling from the ground up? Because when we installed the machines in the spacious and comfortable areas that would house them, we were aware that we were nurturing a project born in-house and would follow it through to delivery. While CSV Life Science was designing the environments where our isolators would operate, we were already involved with our engineering colleagues, considering spaces, positions, and ergonomics.
A Continuous Dialogue.
CSV Containment’s team communicated with Group colleagues and the client to offer operators the best possible working experience. The isolators themselves also communicate with certain systems within the client’s plant, such as the CIP system and the management system related to the recipes being prepared.
For instance, with Cleaning in Place, the washing of the chambers via spray ball is closely linked to the product that has been handled. From the isolator’s control panel, it is possible to obtain dedicated information for the appropriate washing cycle. Water temperature, washing time, and specific solvents are predefined and can be recalled by the operator, thanks to the communication between the machine and the plant, which will follow the “recipe” providing all the useful characteristics for washing. Operators also have spray guns with water for washing and air for drying. Moreover, a conductivity probe helps determine if solvent is still present in the drained water or if further rinsing of the chambers is required.
Simplified Operations and Clear Data.
Material entry into the chambers is facilitated by side doors, and internal movements from one chamber to another are made easier by the well-tested inflatable gasket doors, which, once opened, create a continuous surface connecting the two environments. The scales housed in the weighing chambers ensure accuracy and data saving. The systems comply with CFR 21. During sampling, while the scale records the data, the operator can conveniently verify it on the internal display placed at eye level, while dispensing communicates the data directly to the client’s IT management system. After weighing and sampling operations, there are interesting solutions to safely transfer materials out of the isolators.
The solid partnership of CSV Containment with ChargePoint allows leveraging extensive experience in the field of valves and containers, always offering the most suitable tools. The dispensing unit is equipped with a butterfly valve to which the brand-new PuroVaso bottles can be connected, while the sampling unit is fitted with an RTP port. An additional aid during the bag out phase is the use of continuous liners produced by CSV Containment combined with the RTP. This solution allows alternative use of the port, offering a versatile and safe tool.
Safety and Testing.
The main chambers are equipped with temperature and humidity sensors. In all chambers, the oxygen sensor reads the values during inertisation. Working in an inert atmosphere, hence with nitrogen, can increase risks for operators. To assess the residual nitrogen quantity before reopening the chambers, air is introduced and measured inside the isolators until an optimal oxygen level is reached. This prevents operators from accidentally inhaling harmful mixtures. Another concern is dust and its monitoring. The integrity of the glove boxes is measured by leak tests that can be initiated from the machine’s control panel. CSV Containment also performs SMEPAC Tests with its containment experts. Production operations are replicated using a dummy, and any airborne particles are measured. After collecting samples with the swab phase, all data is quickly processed by partner workers.
