slurry and electrolyte battery CSV Containment

How DIT® technology and group synergies redefine powder handling in battery production.

In the battery industry, battery containment is one of the most critical stages of the production process, with a direct impact on safety, productivity and operational efficiency.
CSV Group addresses this challenge through a unique combination of innovation and integrated expertise.
Thanks to CSV Containment’s DIT® technology for universal drum loading and the collaboration of various companies within the Group, CSV Group delivers advanced solutions that increase speed, reduce physical effort and enhance safety in battery production environments.

To better understand the Group’s approach to this new market, we spoke with Erika Marson, Business Development at CSV Containment, who shared her perspective on CSV Group’s positioning and ambitions in the battery sector.

CSV CONTAINMENT- BATTERY 2026

Erika, why has our Group decided to enter a context such as battery production?

There are mainly two reasons. The first is our intention to bring the culture developed in the pharmaceutical sector into a different and rapidly growing industrial context. At the first Battery Show we attended in the United States, some customers approached us to address significant safety requirements.

They needed containment systems to ensure operator safety, and we were able to present ourselves with strong expertise gained in the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. For us, it is therefore a major advantage to bring the pharmaceutical and chemical culture of safety and containment into the battery world. The second reason is our interest in exploring new markets in order to continue developing our solutions.

What makes our Group unique as a partner within an ecosystem such as the battery industry? What do you see as the distinctive feature of CSV Group?

As CSV Group, we can make a difference not across the entire process, but certainly in two key stages: slurry preparation and electrolyte handling.
We can significantly accelerate certain processes while ensuring operator safety, exactly as we do in pharmaceutical applications. Bringing our expertise in containment and in the transfer of powders and liquids is undoubtedly a strong added value.

Moreover, within the Group we have process engineers with excellent capabilities in facility design and plant sizing based on production batches. We can offer advantageous solutions in terms of process efficiency and improve operator activities while ensuring safety when handling powders and liquids, even those with high levels of hazard.

The patented DIT® (Drum Iris Technology), distinguished by its universal drum loading interface, is able to significantly reduce loading times, facilitate operations and speed up processes while maintaining full containment.

CSV Containment offers both rigid and flexible containment solutions. Are both approaches useful for this market?

Absolutely. Glove Boxes and Glove Bags can address different needs.
Rigid containment is more suited to production environments, while flexible containment is more closely linked to R&D, laboratories and pilot plants.

There is also the supply chain, with its specific requirements. Everything depends on how the main contractor is structured: whether it develops everything in-house or sources slurry from one supplier and raw materials from another. Therefore, there can be many stakeholders potentially interested in our solutions.

Is the culture of safety in this supply chain as strong and established as in the pharmaceutical world, or is there still room for improvement where CSV Containment can contribute its experience?

I believe there is growing awareness in this area, but it should probably be further encouraged, as regulations will become increasingly stringent.

Our goal is to become a reference point in containment, bringing distinctive experience also thanks to our patented and automated systems, which can help reduce the risk of human error in material handling processes.

Returning to the topic of service integration, is there a relationship between CSV Life Science Group’s ability to design and build facilities and the improvement or optimization of process plant and containment system performance?

Absolutely. CSV Life Science is able not only to provide engineering and conceptual design, but also to support customers—thanks to the Group’s integrated competencies—in structuring the entire production flow, always considering the fundamental aspect of operator safety.

Not to mention the validation services offered by the Group and the expertise of the CSV Construction division, which is capable of delivering turnkey facilities starting from scratch.

Our Group can bring added value, especially in more complex challenges, thanks to the presence of different branches that can be involved in the completion of large-scale projects.

Operator safety is the key focus of CSV Containment. Beyond process optimization, can the synergy with Pharma Hub represent an additional advantage in the transport and mixing of powders and liquids?

Yes. In the battery production process, in addition to safe loading, transfer and discharge of powders, Pharma Hub integrates perfectly with Containment by managing liquid transfer and mixing operations.

Through mixers and emulsifiers manufactured in Pharma Hub workshops—one of the Group’s key assets—CSV Group is able to produce customized skids tailored to specific process requirements.

Do you think an integrated Group like ours is well suited to support the constantly evolving needs of the battery sector?

I believe that the ability to keep pace with the rapid evolution of the battery world is part of our DNA, as we have highly skilled people capable of managing even large-scale projects. As a Group, we can certainly make a difference and adopt an approach oriented not only to production but also to recycling, addressing the battery world from multiple perspectives. We will be able to embrace the change and innovation brought by this new market.

In some systems, CSV Life Science Group is already at the forefront, and we will progressively integrate the use of AI and other emerging technologies into our projects.

The integration of these competencies within a single Group is almost unique. Do you think it could make a difference in the battery market?

Certainly. Our strength stems from this Group synergy, and we will continue to build on it. We started by participating in trade fairs such as Battery Show North America, as well as conferences and tabletop events, where we aim to share our vision—a vision that has guided us so far toward “Destination Pharma”, without excluding new goals and emerging spaces where we will be able to fully express our potential.

See you at the Battery Show Europe 2026 in Stuttgart from June 9 to 11, 2026!
